Orthodontics in Albania
Very often the beauty of a smile is disturbed by one or more crooked or even overlapping teeth. These diseases can be treated with orthodontics. This branch of dentistry deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the abnormal position of one or more teeth. The purpose of orthodontic care is not only aesthetic, but is aimed at the full recovery of the functions of mastication, breathing and phonation (which is, simplifying, our ability to speak).
Orthodontics also deals with the malformation of the jaw, intervening with cures to correct dental malocclussions, ie the wrong closure of the mouth.
From this description we can already understand what a high degree of specialization and experience the orthodontist must have. In fact it must be able, not only to intervene with specific techniques on the patient, but must be able to dialogue, if necessary, both with the technical laboratory and with the maxillofacial surgeon for more serious and complex problems.
The work of the orthodontic doctor begins with a thorough examination of the patient; this visit has a different medical protocol than the normal visit made by the dentist.
Very often the orthodontic doctor uses specific orthodontic appliances for dental care to be given to the patient, which can be fixed or mobile.
These devices can be used not only for the correction of the position of one or more dental elements, but also for the correction of more serious pathologies affecting bony parts; in this way these devices obtain not only an orthodontic effect, that is linked to the movement of the teeth, but also orthopedic, as they correct and guide the growth of the bone bases.
Normally these metal devices are glued, with appropriate adhesives, on the front surface of the teeth; in this case we are talking about fixed devices but mobile devices can also be used to correct dental elements, bone bases or to change incorrect patient habits. The types of fixed and mobile appliances described above, however, generate problems about daily oral hygiene and also social problems because they are unsightly to see.

In modern orthodontic dentistry, however, invisible appliances are used which can also be fixed or mobile. The invisible fixed appliances have a metallic structure similar to the one described above but are fixed in the inner part of the tooth so as to be invisible. Mobile appliances, on the other hand, can be of different types. The latest discoveries of orthodontic technology are invisible devices called “masks”. These devices are manufactured, in specialized laboratories, with computerized technologies that analyze and study the molds of the patient’s mouth and generate the impression on the basis of which different masks are produced which the patient progressively replaces at precise intervals (a few weeks each time).
In our clinic all these orthodontic techniques are used by specialized dentists, in collaboration with our technical laboratory, to guarantee the patient the full mechanical and aesthetic recovery of his teeth, giving him again the pleasure of smiling.
